Good morning!

Some last minute details to share with your teams.

My cell # is 204-330-6731. Should you have any issues or concerns from Thursday-Tuesday, you can reach me there. If it’s during regular business hours before then, please email me here (josh.henson@cwbank.com).

#1 Pick up at the airport.

There will be a volunteer from the MB Scholastic Chess Association on site at the Winnipeg Airport to greet your participants and direct them to drivers, waiting to take them to the University. It might even be me, from time to time. The volunteer will likely be wearing last year’s team Manitoba t-shirt (it’s a black shirt, with a bomber on the front – see attached). We are still working on rides, unfortunately this year we could not get a bus. We have many parents who are volunteering time to give rides. So if you arrive and there are a significant number of guests arriving at a similar time, you may be waiting a few minutes for your ride. Don’t panic, we’ll get you to the University.

If you don’t want to wait, you can take a cab to the University of Manitoba, Fort Garry Campus. The University is roughly a 30-35 minute drive from the airport. The cost for this, I would estimate, to be around $40.

I’d suggest waiting. J

#2 Checking in.

Please proceed to Arthur V. Mauro Residence to check in. If you are getting a ride, your driver will take you there. Arthur V Mauro Residence is across the street from Mary Speechly Hall.

#3 Parking & Road Closure.

Plan to park in D Lot if you are staying in residence. Freedman Crescent, east of Mary Speechly Hall will be closed for a water main upgrade. To get to University College, you will drive back onto Freedman, head west, turn right (north) on University Crescent, turn right (east) on Dysart Road, following it around to B Lot, which is at the North East corner of campus. Keep in mind that some parking is 24/7 (ie the parkade, and the N Lot in Chancellor Circle, among others). If you park without reading the signs, you may get a ticket. We will not be responsible for any parking tickets – read the signs, you’ll be fine.

#4 Internet on Campus.

If your participants would like internet access, they should request it upon checking in. I’m told they will definitely have access in residence. I have received conflicting responses from University Staff on whether or not the access will be campus wide. Sorry if it’s not, it’s just the way it is.

#5 The Playing Hall

The playing hall will be the Great Hall, of University College. You can find it on the map. There will also be maps available on check-in.

#6 Breakfast

Breakfast will be in Pembina Hall. Pembina Hall is a residence directly East of Mary Speechly Hall. See the map.

#7 The BBQ. (530pm-730pm)

If you were on the fence about the BBQ, here are three awesome reasons you should come. Tickets will be available at the door. The BBQ will start Saturday evening at 530pm, with entertainment at 615pm.

Thanks,

Joshua Henson
